Come January 31, 2018, the Ghost/Steel Pokemon Aegislash will be added to Pokken Tournament DX by way of a Battle Pack DLC, along with a support team that includes Mega Rayquaza and Mimikyu. As far as Aegislash’s abilities are concerned, it can switch between Sword and Shield forms to let players choose whether they prefer fighting offensively or defensively. Mega Rayquaza has a charge attack that knocks opponents to the other side of the arena, while Mimikyu goes close quarters with its Shadow Claw attacks.
Following the arrival of Aegislash and its support crew, a second wave of DLC will be added to Pokken Tournament DX on March 23, 2018, with the familiar Generation 1 Pokemon Blastoise joining the roster with a support set including the Mythical Pokemon Mew and Celebi. Unfortunately, no new footage was shown of Blastoise, Mew, or Celebi, but one can surmise that Blastoise’s Ultimate Attack will probably involve its Mega Evolved form in some way.
For those Pokken Tournament DX fans keeping count, Blastoise and Aegislash’s eventual addition to the title will bring the list of playable fighters up to 23 in total. And considering this DLC announcement surprised the majority of the fighting game’s community, Bandai Namco and Nintendo could potentially release even more fighters in the near future to ensure the gameplay remains fresh and varied for both competitive players and casual fans alike.
Pokken Tournament DX is available now for Nintendo Switch.
