According to the Pokemon website, Pokemon TCG packs will be increased in price from $3.99 to $4.49 moving forward, but new distributions will offer collectors better odds of drawing a rare. Since popular content creators like Twitch’s xQc and YouTube’s Logan Paul took a liking to the Pokemon TCG, products have seen a boom in popularity and scalping. The alterations coming to the Pokemon TCG may be a response to its success or another move to continue innovating on the formula, but regardless of the reasoning, it’s likely that the cards will remain relevant for the foreseeable future.

The Pokemon Company has confirmed that the yellow border that has become synonymous with the Pokemon TCG will be changed to a toned-down silver which will make new sets stand out from their older counterparts. In addition to this visible change, the Pokemon TCG will also be swapping the subcategory of Trainer Pokemon cards to the top left which directly mirrors where it was located before. These subcategories include Ace Spec, Pokemon Tool, Stadium, Supporter, Technical Machine, and more, which each have their own indication that may be easier to see in a player’s hand according to The Pokemon Company.

Pokemon TCG booster packs may be increasing in price from now on, The Pokemon Company has announced that there will be three guaranteed foil cards with each purchase rather than two. Beyond the promise of an additional foil, all types of rare cards will be foiled which increases the chance of a Pokemon TCG player pulling rare cards from their booster packs. The Pokemon Scarlet and Violet set is the first line of booster packs that Pokemon TCG fans can expect to see these adjustments with, but it’s likely that future re-prints of older sets will at least feature the visible changes that have been made by The Pokemon Company.

As multiple Pokemon TCG fans expressed their enthusiasm for the alterations coming to the cards with the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet set, others asked for more changes like to the central frames, the Poke Ball on the back of the card, symbols used to represent sets, and TCG Live. While a large majority of responses to the Pokemon TCG announcement celebrated the silver outline replacing the former yellow one, some competitive players voiced their own questions about what sets can be combined in future tournament play.
