Pokemon Sword and Shield players are eagerly awaiting the Armor of Isle DLC that will be available for play later this month. This change in approach to Gigantamax Pokemon is one of a few elements that the expansion the latest generation of Pokemon games. Along with missing Pokemon coming back to the game in the DLC and brand new moves Pokemon can learn, the DLC will bring a new element to Gigantamaxing that haven’t been seen yet in the eight generation Pokemon games.

Since Pokemon Sword and Shield released, players could only obtain Gigantamax Pokemon by finding them through Max Raid Battles. This meant that the large majority of Pokemon in the game could not Gigantamax, like Starter Pokemon and those transferred from previous games in the series. However, this system is changing with the expansion. Early June 3, Nintendo announced that one of the new features the Armor of Isle DLC would be bringing to the game would be an alternate way to Gigantamax Pokemon that players already have: through Max Soup.
Throughout the game’s expansion, players will be able to find ingredients to create the Max Soup. When fed to any Pokemon with “hidden great potential,” that Pokemon would have the ability to Gigantamax unlocked for them. Nintendo has not revealed how difficult collecting the ingredients for Max Soup will be and if there are opportunities to get more than one of the item, but fans may have to wait until the Armor of Isle DLC comes out on June 17.
The Armor of Isle DLC is looking more exciting every day, and with continued announcements from Nintendo on different features it will be adding to Pokemon Sword and Shield, fans have a lot to look forward to. With Crown Tundra’s recent announcement about new Galarian Legendaries it’s including, the DLCs will be bringing a lot of content that fans wish was a part of the main game.
