With the release of Scarlet and Violet, it is down to those dedicated members of the Pokemon community to dig deep and reveal the secrets hidden by GameFreak. In the latest Pokemon games there may still be secrets to be found in the wide open world, however some have been revealed that are certainly intriguing enough to keep most secret hunters satisfied - at least for the moment.

7 Ribbons, Marks & Titles

Like previous Pokemon games, Scarlet and Violet allow players to gain ribbons for their Pokemon, depending on actions taken by the main character. If a Pokemon becomes particularly friendly, is in your party for the challenge of the Pokemon League or attends certain events as well as certain other objectives, it can receive a ribbon or mark to indicate that it has done so.

Once a Pokemon has been given a ribbon, it will then confer a title on that particular Pokemon. The title is directly related to the ribbon and can be seen on the summary screen of that particular Pokemon.

6 Shiny Pokedex

Shiny Pokemon have been around for some time, however what may not be familiar to players is that in the latest games a player can determine which image is used for display on the Pokedex.

If a player has seen a particular shiny Pokemon, they can choose to display the differently colored Pokemon rather than the common variety. This can be done for every single entry in the Pokedex which means that it is possible to have a Pokedex that consists entirely of shiny Pokemon - a feat not previously possible in the games.

5 Lightweights

The recent game releases in the Pokemon franchise have received some criticism for bugs and errors in the final released product, with some compilations receiving significant memes and videos on YouTube. One ‘glitch’ that is actually intentional however, is the weight of the Pokemon during inclement weather.

If a player has been out hunting for Pokemon during particularly windy days, they may have seen Pokemon such as Hoppip launched across the screen in the direction of the wind. This is actually deliberate and only applies to lightweight Pokemon that can easily be carried away by the weather.

4 Tera-fying Refills

Terastallizing is the new gimmick for the Scarlet and Violet games and has substantial battle potential, but can only be used once before the ability must be recharged at a Pokemon Center. This can seriously limit the advantages of the technique when out in the field, however there is an additional, hidden function that can be used to extend its functionality.

It is possible to find Tera Raids out in the field through the crystals dotted around the map. These raids can allow unique and powerful Pokemon to be challenged and captured, however they also provide LP and can recharge the Terastallize function. This does not even require the player to attempt the raid and only requires a simple interaction for it to be ready for another use.

3 Nighty Dreamy Snoozy Snooze

There are 400 Pokemon found in Paldea with slightly over 100 of them being unique to the new games. Each of these Pokemon, both new and pre-existing, has a unique sleeping animation that has not been seen previously.

In order to see each Pokemon’s sleeping form, all the player needs to do is to set up a picnic with the selected Pokemon and wait. Within a few minutes, gamers will be able to see each of the Pokemon as they drift off into a peaceful slumber.

2 A Case For Rotometry

At the bottom of the Mesagoza steps is an older female character that can offer to look into a player’s past history through the use of “Rotometry”. This is apparently an ancient art that can be used to check the save data history of the Nintendo Switch the game is being played upon and see the other franchise games that have been played previously.

While this is a nice touch, the real benefit of doing this process is that for each of the previous mainline games that have been played on the Nintendo Switch, the gamer can receive a special and unique case for their rotom phone instead of the ones purchased from the stores in-game.

1 Once In A Lifetime (Water Flowing Underground)

Some ribbons and marks can be very difficult to obtain and while some can be found by maxing out a Pokemon’s EV stats, or by catching a Pokemon on the player’s birthday, there is one ribbon available that has apparently not been obtained by a single player yet.

The “Once In A Lifetime” ribbon is only available at random through the Wonder Trade feature of the game which allows players to exchange Pokemon with players across the world. During one of these trades, a Pokemon will receive the ribbon and the associated title however, although it is a known feature of the game, even experts have not found this ribbon yet.
