Not knowing much about these games have given them an air of mystery. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will be the first open-world Pokemon games after partial attempts in the last couple of Game Freak titles like Pokemon Legends: Arceus. Additionally, these new titles are experimenting with things like co-op multiplayer and non-linear progression in that open-world environment. It’s an exciting time for Pokemon, but among the many questions that fans have, there’s been one particularly notable missing detail. Despite sporting two major trailers and a fast-approaching release date, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet still haven’t revealed the name of their region.

Why Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Region Name is Important

Mainline Pokemon titles are set in regions like Kanto, Hoenn, and Galar, and referencing a Pokemon generation with the name of its region is usually acceptable. Even spin-off games often come with new regions of their own, such as Pokemon Colosseum’s Orre region and Pokken Tournament’s Ferrum. It’s a small detail, but it’s one that has become part of the Pokemon series’ tradition.

After so many years of regions being a given part of Pokemon titles, it’s bizarre that Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have been so tight-lipped about theirs. Regional names are usually revealed alongside the first or second trailer for a Pokemon game, generally whichever one begins to show significant information that contributes to the games’ identity like Legendaries. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet already had one of these trailers, and the reason why the upcoming Generation 9 region name hasn’t been revealed yet isn’t clear.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Seem to be Holding a Lot Back

Keeping an obvious marketing point from fans is an odd move, and it’s expected that the next trailer releasing tomorrow will reveal something. There is a lot that the third Pokemon Scarlet and Violet trailer could show, and now feels like the right time to do it. The whole summer has been plagued by rumors and leaks, likely spread further due to frustration with a lack of marketing for these new games coming up to launch. Fans don’t even know 10 of the new Pokemon being introduced, which is a noticeable deficit of information compared to prior entries, and it would be best for everyone if Game Freak cleared the air.

It’s not unreasonable to call a region name the bare minimum information that this third trailer needs to reveal. Plenty of new Pokemon, mechanics, and other structural information about Pokemon Scarlet and Violet should come along with it. There will probably be additional information found on the Pokemon website that could not be properly communicated through the trailer, but no matter what else is in the Pokemon Presents video on August 3, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet should have all the content necessary to dominate the lion’s share.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will be released on November 18 for Nintendo Switch.
