Pokemon Scarlet and Violet introduce their fair share of great shiny Pokemon that are worth the arduous hunt. Some of the variations make the Pokemon look more like regular animals, while others benefit from the recoloring because it accentuates their best aspects. The new generation also introduces fresh ways to increase the odds of coming across these anomalous creatures.

Iron Thorns
Tyranitar is a Pokemon that has been lucky enough to receive quite a bit of attention from the franchise. During Pokemon X and Y, Tyranitar receives a Mega Evolution. In Scarlet and Violet, it receives a new design in the form of a future Paradox Pokemon. Dubbed Iron Thorns, this version of Tyranitar appears to have metal armor with a green glowing belly beneath. In contrast, the shiny version of Iron Thorns has silver armor coating it, which makes it look even more futuristic. The Pokemon’s belly remains glowing green, which gives the shiny creature a little extra flair. It is a gorgeous addition to any team member and is the best version of Tyranitar around.
Rellor
Rellor is a unique Pokemon that is one of three that evolve using the new evolutionary mechanic introduced in Scarlet and Violet. It resembles a dung beetle, and the Pokedex notes that it loves its ball of dirt more than its own life. The shiny version of Rellor has the Pokemon remaining mostly the same color, except for the ball of dirt which is now gilded. This makes the Pokemon’s Pokedex entry make a little more sense, as it is rolling around a ball of gold instead of just dirt.
Pawmi
It has become a tradition for every new Pokemon generation to feature a Pikachu clone. In Scarlet and Violet, that Pokemon is Pawmi. The rodent is typically cute and golden, and it stands out from prior Pikachu clones because it has an evolutionary form. Regular Pawmi is adorable enough, but shiny Pawmi is even cuter, making the Pokemon one of the most eye-catching Pikachu clones available. The light pink is not too shocking but is instead warm, making the Pokemon look like a rodent made out of cotton candy.

Varoom and Revavroom
Varoom and Revavroom are two Pokemon that look like car engines. Despite their designs, they are rather slow Pokemon, and their use in the competitive scene depends on players knowing how to use this to their advantage. Typically, both Pokemon are silver with black wheels. The shiny versions replace all the silver with gold, making them look like exotic engines that belong in a luxury vehicle. The gold definitely makes both Pokemon stand out far more, and it gives them a premium aesthetic.
Wiglett
Within Paldea, players will encounter regional variants of some Pokemon. These function in the same way that divergent evolution might in the real world. These Pokemon, having grown in a different environment, developed traits that differ from the Pokemon that players are used to. One of these regional variants is Wiglett, which very much looks like Diglett. Instead of being brown, Wiglett is white, making it look a bit like a disgusting maggot. This is mended with the regional variant of this Pokemon, which is gold instead. The eye-popping color is irresistible, and it shows off the design of the regional variant instead of making it look like a slimy worm.
Bellibolt
One of the most adorable Pokemon introduced in Scarlet and Violet is Bellibolt. It is a chubby, Electric-Type Pokemon with a large belly and green skin. At the center of its tummy is a black circle with a yellow belly button. As the Pokedex explains, the belly-button dynamo in its stomach produces lots of electricity. The shiny version of Bellibolt gives the Pokemon yellow skin instead, which is ideal for the Pokemon, as it stresses that it is an Electric-Type Pokemon. Its belly button remains yellow, which gives the entire shiny Pokemon a nice yellow theme.
Lechonk
When Lechonk was revealed, it instantly became a fan favorite and the focus of many memes thanks to the fact that it looks like a silly pig. Usually, Lechonk is black with a brown face. Its shiny form looks a lot more like a regular pig because it has pink skin. Its face, however, remains brown. Any player lucky enough to come across shiny Lechonk will have the privilege of having the most pig-like Pokemon on their team.
How to Find Shiny Pokemon
Shiny Pokemon are visible in the overworld, though there are no accompanying sounds. Hence, players will have to pay extra attention when they’re roaming about. Once a special shiny has been located, it must be caught before it passes out. There are a few means to increase the odds of coming across these special critters. In Scarlet and Violet, players can also make shiny sandwiches, which increases the odds of encountering shiny Pokemon.
The Pokemon introduced in this generation are great, and the shiny versions make some of them even better. It should be noted that shiny Pokemon aren’t competitively superior in any way - they just have a different design. Nevertheless, they are always hunted due to their rarity and their occasionally great designs. Adding a shiny Pokemon to one’s team makes it a little more impressive because the odds of encountering a shiny one are exceedingly low.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are available on Nintendo Switch.
