So far, the starters are the laid-back fire crocodile Fuecoco, the grass-type cat Pokemon Sprigatito, and the duck with an interesting hairdo, Quaxly. Already, fans are picking their favorite of these three, with many making interesting fan arts and animations dedicated to their chosen starter. As Quaxly looks like a duck, many jokes have already been made among fans who believe that the Pokemon will evolve into Donald Duck.

One fan though, has instead taken inspiration from Quaxly’s “hair,” which looks like the hair of one of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure’s protagonists. Both Quaxly and Josuke of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure wear a pompadour hairstyle, which in Japanese media is stereotypically associated with gang members and thugs. It is highly unlikely that the cute duck Quaxly is a member of a gang, though this hasn’t stopped fans comparing the pompadour worn by both the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet and JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure characters.

Reddit user Jack_does_reddit even combined the two using a manga panel from Part 4 of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. Instead of Josuke’s face and traditional purple hair, the artists swaps out these features to give Quaxly the traditional design of characters in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. Fans in the comments of the Reddit post were glad to share that they weren’t the only ones who compared the two characters upon seeing Quaxly’s reveal. One fan even joked that while Quaxly looks like the protagonist of Part 4, Sprigatito could evolve into the Kira’s stand also seen in Part 4. As Kira is the antagonist of that JoJo’s part, it would make for quite the Pokemon battle between rivals.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is not as popular of a franchise as Pokemon, though it is a well-known and recognized anime in Japan. There have been plenty of nods to JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure in other media over time, and crossovers are something that both the Pokemon and JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure franchises are used to. Despite this, there has yet been no official crossover between the two IPs, though perhaps in time this could change.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will release in late 2022 for Nintendo Switch.
