Although many of the bugs typically found by players in the new Generation 9 games are more ridiculous than they are game-breaking, occasional issues cause players to sometimes find themselves clipping out of bounds or falling into inescapable areas, which can effectively softlock the game. These sort of issues thankfully appear to be quite rare though, with fans instead encountering bugs that, for example, cause Psyducks to spontaneously appear during a cutscene. In fact, much of the coverage of the new Pokemon games across social media has been focused on sharing some of the hilarious moments that players manage to capture, from vanishing NPC characters to Nemona walking off the edge of a cliff.

This clip, shared on Reddit by the user sweetkick, showcases a much less funny sort of glitch, however. While exploring one of the many dark caves throughout the Paldea region, the player finds themselves reappearing out of the map bounds after running from a wild Pokemon. While riding upon Miraidon, one of the new legendary Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, the player exits the battle and finds themselves stuck against an invisible wall which prevents them from continuing through the cave. Essentially trapped in the cave wall, the player can even be seen jumping around on Miraidon in an attempt to phase back through the wall, but to no avail.
These sorts of issues unfortunately seem to be far more common than they have ever been before in previous Pokemon titles. Clipping through the map is a problem that many players have experienced in the game, and many players brought attention to such issues shortly after the games launched. Similarly, players have noticed that wild Pokemon can suffer the same fate, presumably meaning that wild Pokemon - possibly even shiny ones - can spawn or get stuck in areas which cannot be reached by players.
While many players have been having a great time in the Paldea region overall - with some fans even claiming Scarlet and Violet to be their all-time favorites in the series - others have found that the mixture of poor graphics, performance issues, and annoying glitches have sapped much of their enjoyment of the games. Having now been a few weeks since the games’ launch with no substantial fixes other than the announcement of a relatively small patch, players are thinking that most of the games’ most annoying problems will never be patched out.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are available on Nintendo Switch.
