However, what the game does have going for it is the amount of the lovable creatures that have been in fans’ hearts since 1996. With 400 of them available in Scarlet & Violet, gamers are spoiled for choice, included in this are 34 Pokemon from generation 5, based in Unova.

10 Eelektross

Eelektross makes a return in Scarlet & Violet, this electric Pokemon is solid in the games, and due to its levitate ability, it has no weaknesses. It also boasts 115 attack and 105 special attack, an offensive monster. Gamers can also catch a tera-type Eelektross in North Province Area One, this is dragon-type and is a staggering level 65.

The only way to capture one in the game, trainers will need to evolve it from an Eelektrik using a thunderstone if they cannot overcome this task of catching such a high-leveled Pokemon.

9 Amoonguss

This Pokemon became a meme as its name shared a resemblance to the popular game Among Us. Nonetheless, Amoonguss is a very decent Pokemon in the games. Its move set of Giga Drain, Ingrain and Synthesis combines for a really great battle strategy, constantly regaining HP in an attempt to get one over on the opponent.

Evolving from Foongus at level 39, gamers can also find Amooguss in the South Province, West Province (Area Three), Tagtree Thicket, East Province, Casseroya Lake and North Province. Brute Bonnett is a Paradox Pokemon, that shares a resemblance to this mushroom Pokemon.

8 Sawsbuck

Sawsbuck is an interesting Pokemon as it has four different forms, that are all depending on the weather, where the gamer captures this deer will determine what form it will come under. A fantastic method of Pokemon forms and it made use of the seasonal changes that were introduced in Pokemon Black & White.

Deerling is the pre-evolved form of Sawsbuck, evolving at level 34. Both can be found in South Province (Area One), South Province (Area Four), South Province (Area Five), East Province (Area One), East Province (Area Two), West Province (Area Two), West Province (Area Three) and Casseroya Lake in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet.

7 Braviary

Somewhat of a mascot for Black & White as the games are set in Unova, which is based on the USA. Braviary’s design takes inspiration from the USA’s national animal, the bald eagle. The two are very much intertwined. But Braviary makes the leap into Paldea.

It can be found in a few locations in the games, North Province (Area One and Two) and Area Zero. Gamers may want to catch the pre-evolved Rufflet and evolve it at level 59. Braviary is a fantastic flying type in the game with 112 special attack and 110 HP.

6 Krookodile

Krookodile’s design is just fantastic, a red and black crocodile is basic, but it just works. Its typing of ground/dark is perfect for it, and it is a very welcomed addition to the roster for Scarlet & Violet.

With 117 attack, earthquake will leave opponents running scared, but gamers cannot find this crocodile in Paldea and will have to evolve it from a Krokorok at level 40. Fans will remember Krookodile from the anime, with Ash’s Pokemon having a fondness for wearing sunglasses, sadly the Krookodile in Scarlet & Violet won’t feature any cool eyewear.

5 Volcarona

This generation 5 Pokemon was kind of a legendary Pokemon in Black & White, there was only one of them in the game, and it had an over world sprite, similar to how legendary Pokemon are caught. But this fire/bug type is just a regular and is included in Paldea.

Volcarona is not available to catch though and gamers must evolve a Larvesta in order to obtain it. However, Volcarona does have two Paradox Pokemon, ancient or future versions of Pokemon. The Ancient Slither Wing of Scarlet and the Future Iron Moth of Violet. Both versions can be found in Area Zero once the main part of the games are complete.

4 Zoroark

A Pokemon with a very interesting ability, Zoroark and its pre-evolved Zorua both have illusion which disguises themselves as another Pokemon to trick their opponents into using a move that will not be as effective.

Zoroark can be found in West Province (Area Three), Tagtree Thicket and Casseroya Lake, but trainers will not find a Zoroark but another Pokemon, really tricky to catch this one. This dark type has a flawless and menacing design, a truly amazing Pokemon which deserves its place in any entry into the franchise.

3 Haxorus

A very solid dragon-type in the games, Haxorus’ design is fantastic, going back to basics and making a very neutral-looking dragon was a risk that played off in generation 5.

A common misconception is that Haxorus is a pseudo-legendary Pokemon, however, this is not correct as it only has a base total stat of 540. Nonetheless, it still really is a good Pokemon with fantastic stats and one that gamers should pick up. Not available to catch, Axew and Fraxure will need to be sought after and evolved in order for Haxorus to be obtained.

2 Bisharp

Dark types had really amazing designs in generation 5 and here is another one, this time it is Bisharp. Bisharp always had something missing from it and in Scarlet & Violet, this was proven through the introduction of its evolved form Kingambit.

Another new and interesting method of evolution, gamers must battle and defeat three other Bisharp, that are holding a Leader’s Crest in order to evolve into Kingambit. This is completely worth it as it improves on its design and makes it stronger, but Bisharp is still an excellent Pokemon in its own right with 125 attack and 100 defense.

1 Hydreigon

Without a doubt, the best and strongest Pokemon to come from Unova which was included in Scarlet & Violet. This Pseudo-legendary is only available in Scarlet, Dreepy and its evolution line being the alternative for Violet.

Hydreigon has a unique design which works really well, and its dragon/dark typing is amazing to use in the game, just make sure to avoid fairy-type Pokemon. If gamers were lucky they could have picked up a tera-type Hydreigon in a limited-time raid event earlier this month. If this was missed out then don’t worry because this Pokemon is still superb in its own right and it is the highlight from the generation 5 Pokemon in Paldea.

Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet are available now on Nintendo Switch.
